Methuen police: Man stole green shoes

By Jim Patten
Staff writer

METHUEN — He had no green in his pockets, so he stole a pair of shoes to put green on his feet, police said.

A man with no money shoplifted a pair of green shoes from Payless Shoe Store in Merrimack Plaza, but before he had a chance to put them on, police caught him with the shoes still in a bag.

Lt. James Jajuga said officers Justin Law and Jamie Moore were called to the plaza on Haverhill Street for a shoplifter at 10:35 a.m.

They found Pablo Delgadillo, 40, of 330 Haverhill St., Lawrence, carrying shoes with a security tag on them in a bag, police said.

Both the clerk at Payless, who followed Delgadillo out of the store, and the owner of Plaza Liquors identified Delgadillo as a shoplifter, police said. The liquor store owner said Delgadillo had stolen a bottle of Hennessey cognac and a bottle of Goldschlager liqueur from his store Wednesday. He said Delgadillo tried yesterday to steal more cognac, but was caught and was kicked out of the store. That's when he went into Payless, police said.

Delgadillo was arrested and charged with shoplifting, police said.
