Merrimack Valley

Patriotic parties' pop delayed a bit

Fireworks shows around the Merrimack Valley have been bumped a day or two because of the rain. But unless lightning strikes, the rain won't likely cancel fireworks completely this Fourth of July weekend, they said.

Andover and Haverhill, which had shows scheduled for tonight, have put them off until Sunday at dusk.

Lawrence moved its fireworks to Monday night. It was to be last night.

Methuen will decide today on whether to put off tonight's concert at 6 by Beetle Juice at Nicholson Stadium on Pleasant View Street. The concert would be Sunday at 6 p.m., should it decide to hold off.

Haverhill Human Services Director Vincent Ouellette said Haverhill Stadium was too wet to launch the fireworks tonight. He expects the stadium will be dry for Sunday's show, he said.

"We see that Sunday is going to be a perfect day so it's best to move it to then," he said.

Ouellette said the pyrotechnic company agreed Sunday would be a better day, as did the B Street Bombers who will perform before the fireworks.

North Andover has decided its show will go on despite the rain.

New Hampshire towns are still debating whether to postpone fireworks.

Salem and Pelham organizers said they will make decisions today, and Derry will decide on Saturday.

Pelham and Windham have already said any postponement would push their shows to Sunday night. Pelham will post any new announcement on its message board at www.pelhammessageboard.com/phpbb/

The Eagle-Tribune will post changes on its Web site: www.eagletribune.com.
