ANDOVER — Burglars have hit four houses in town in recent weeks, stealing jewelry and a small sum of money, police said.

Three of the break-ins occurred on Sagamore Drive and Sequoia Lane. Both streets are off Wildwood Road, immediately east of Route 125 in the South End.

"When people are away is when most of these break-ins occur," said Andover police Lt. James Hashem. "We do see an increase during the warmer weather and during the vacation period."

Hashem said the following break-ins are being investigated:

11 Sagamore Drive on July 6, jewelry and miscellaneous items taken.

10 Quail Run on July 4, no items missing, but vandalism reported.

Sequoia Lane on July 3, jewelry and miscellaneous items taken.

50 Sagamore Drive on July 1, money and electronic items taken.

Quail Run is off Bailey Road in northwest Andover.

Hashem said a witness was able to provide police with a description of a person at one of the break-ins. The other housebreaks were reported by residents of the homes after the fact, he said.

Hashem would not release the description of the person seen.

"We don't want to give that out right now," he said. "We're still working with the victims."
