NORTH ANDOVER — Cardinal Sean O'Malley has appointed the Rev. John Delaney as vicar of the 11 local parishes for a second term.
In his role, Delaney supports the priests in their ministries and provides pastoral care to parishioners at St. Augustine and St. Robert Bellarmine, both in Andover; Corpus Christi, St. Mary of the Assumption and St. Patrick, all in Lawrence; Our Lady of Good Counsel, St. Monica and St. Lucy, all of Methuen; St. Michael of North Andover as well as St. Dorothy and St. Thomas in Wilmington. Delaney is also a liaison between the local parishes and the Archdiocese of Boston.
Delaney, along with the Revs. John Gerry Hogan and Paul Keyes, have been part of a team ministry at St. Michael Church, 196 Main St., since 2005.
Keyes, who was pastor at St. Michael since 1993, was given permission by the archdiocese to run the parish along with Delaney and Hogan.
Delaney was born in Lawrence and attended St. Patrick Church and School. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and College of the Holy Cross.
Delaney worked at the Lawrence Experiment Station before joining the seminary.
Hogan has been stationed at the North Andover church for more than 10 years. In addition to his duties at the church, he is the national circus chaplain — baptizing, marrying, burying and offering counseling to circus performers and workers.
