Portuguese celebrate devotion to the Passion of Christ

Atkinson Congregational, 101 Main St., Atkinson, N.H.: Summer kids club offers activities during church school time, with Bible stories, worship time, crafts and games, through Aug. 24 at 9 a.m.

Center for Mindful Living, in Cambridge College, 60 Island St., Lawrence: Singer-songwriter and environmentalist David Dodson performs tonight, 7:30 p.m., Room E 404. Cost is $10. Nonperishable foods collected for Neighbors in Need.

Corpus Christi, 35 Essex St., Lawrence: Portuguese parishioners celebrate the feast of Senhor Santo Cristo, a devotion to the Passion of Christ, tonight from 7 to midnight and tomorrow beginning with a Mass in Portuguese and English at 11 a.m. Program ends at 9 p.m.

CoRedemptrix Friary, 30 Trinity St., Lawrence: Members of the Franciscans of Primitive Order are sponsoring sports activities for teenagers Aug. 24 and 31 from 2:30 to 4 p.m., at the former Holy Trinity rectory.

Mary Queen of Peace, 200 Lawrence St., Salem, N.H.: Outdoor Mass is Sept. 7 at 11 a.m., followed by picnic from noon to 4 p.m.

Our Lady of Good Counsel School, 526 Lowell St., Lawrence: "Son World Adventure Park" Vacation Bible School, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Sacred Hearts, South Main Street, Bradford: Children's Sunday is celebrated Aug. 24 after the 11:30 a.m. Mass. Picnic follows with old-fashioned games and prizes for the best, prettiest and funniest hat.

St. Mary of the Assumption, 300 Haverhill St., Lawrence: Nine days of prayers in celebration of the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary continues through Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. in the shrine. A parish walk-a-thon takes place Aug. 16, and closing celebrations are Aug. 22 to 24.

The Rev. Albert MacPherson leads a healing service, Aug. 17 at 2:30 p.m. and Aug. 18, 7:30 p.m.

St. Michael, 196 Main St., North Andover: Area celebration of the Archdiocese of Boston bicentennial is Sept. 7 with Mass at noon. Picnic follows from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person and $15 per family of four or more.
