Couple sought in Methuen shoplifting

By Jim Patten

METHUEN — A woman loaded up a shopping cart with groceries at the Stop & Shop on Pleasant Valley Street, then pushed the cart out a side door near the pharmacy to avoid the cashiers.

A store employee told officers she was alerted to the theft and ran to the parking lot, where she saw a man and woman loading groceries into a red Chevrolet Blazer. The vehicle left the parking lot at a high rate of speed, nearly striking the employee.

The Blazer is registered to a Lawrence man, but when officers contacted him, he said the car belonged to a friend of his wife. He said the friend gave him cash to buy the car and register it in his name, but the car really belongs to the friend.
