Candidates for state rep. debate

METHUEN — Democratic state representative candidates Linda Dean Campbell and Chris DiBella will face off in a debate tonight.

Methuen Community Television is airing the live forum from 7 to 8 p.m. on Comcast 22 and Verizon 33.

The primary is Sept. 16. The winner will face city councilor and independent candidate Joseph Leone in the November general election.

Raffle raised $14,700 for local causes

LAWRENCE — During the Feast of the Three Saints on Labor Day weekend, the St. Alfio Society had a annual raffle fundraiser.

Tickets sold for $2 each or 7 for $10. The society netted about $14,700. Winners were: Paul Licciardi of Haverhill with $5,000; Gabrielle Sewade of North Andover, with $1,000; and Connie Faro of Salem, N.H., with $500.

Book sale benefits local nonprofit organizations

LAWRENCE — Creative Living and Lazarus House have partnered with Got Books, a Lawrence-based bookseller and fundraiser.

A quarter of the profits made at Got Books' charity book sale this month will be donated to the two nonprofit agencies.

The book sale is Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Got Books, 104 Glenn St., Lawrence. All items are $1.

Creative Living offers social and recreational solutions for adults with developmental disabilities. Lazarus House assists the needy with food, shelter and clothing and works to prevent homelessness.

Proceeds will be used to help local charities the society supports, including Corpus Christi Parish/Holy Rosary Church, The Eagle-Tribune Santa Fund, Elder Services, Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, Lazarus House, St. Alfio Villa and St. Ann's Home for Children.
