Restructuring results in loss of 52 jobs at Tribune
A restructuring in response to difficult market conditions has resulted in the elimination of 52 full-time and part-time positions at Eagle-Tribune Publishing Co.
The restructuring was announced yesterday by Publisher Al Getler, who said in a memo to employees that eliminating positions was a difficult decision forced by "challenging economic times, especially in the newspaper business."
The positions eliminated are at The Eagle-Tribune and its weekly newspapers.
They include four positions in The Eagle-Tribune's North Andover newsroom, three of them part time.
"We are protecting the content of the newspaper by minimizing the impact on the editorial department," Getler said. "Maintaining the quality of our content is the paramount objective."
Affected employees are being offered assistance to find new employment as quickly as possible.
Getler said the restructuring will help assure the daily and weekly newspapers' future in the present economic climate.
"We have to sustain the long-term viability of the company because The Eagle-Tribune and its sister publications remain the best source of news and information in the Merrimack Valley, the North Shore and Southern New Hampshire," he said.
