Synagogue hosts shofar making workshop

Chabad of Merrimack Valley, 310 Main St., Andover: Children and adults learn to craft a shofar from a genuine ram's horn, tomorrow, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. They will also learn the significance of the instrument during Rosh Hashana, or Jewish new year. Cost is $9.

First Church Congregational, 26 Pleasant St., Methuen: Bible study on the readings of the coming Sunday's worship is Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m.

First Presbyterian, 346 Broadway, Haverhill: A six-week Bible study based on, "Mix it Up: Faith, Politics and Citizenship" begins Sept. 14 at 11:30 a.m.

Hannah Tenney United Methodist Church, 290 Main St., Salem, N.H.: Bible Study on the book of Jeremiah, Sundays at 7 p.m. and Mondays at noon.

Lawrence General Hospital, 1 General St., Lawrence: Volunteers are needed to distribute Holy Communion to patients, one hour a week, one hour every other week or one hour a month. Training provided. Contact chaplain Arlene Larsen, coordinator of Catholic pastoral care at 978-683-4000 ext. 2344.

Pleasant Street United Methodist, 8 Pleasant St., Salem, N.H.: Bible Study on the book of Jeremiah, Sundays at 7 p.m. and Mondays at noon.

Rolling Ridge, 660 Great Pond Road, North Andover: 60th anniversary festival and luncheon Sept. 20, 10 a.m. Events include tours of the grounds and mansion, wellness expo featuring yoga, drumming, massage, labyrinth walk, music and art. Festival is free, but lunch costs $15.

St. Michael, 196 Main St., North Andover: Discussion on the scriptures Tuesdays after the 9 a.m. Mass. Bible study on St. Paul's life and the Book of Romans, begins Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. An ice cream social will be Thursday, 7 p.m. for people interested in learning more about the Catholic faith. St. Monica, 212 Lawrence St., Methuen: Carmen Humphrey of Canada leads prayer, testimony and a healing session Sept. 2, 7 p.m.

Bible study on the book of Romans and Galatians starts Sept. 8 at 7:10 p.m.

St. Patrick, 118 S. Broadway, Lawrence: Parish offers religious education classes for children and adults with physical or developmental challenges. Registrations are being accepted for this year's program by calling Diane Jarvis at 978-683-9416.

Temple Emanuel, 7 Haggetts Pond Road, Andover: Open house for new and prospective members is tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon.

Whitney Jablonki leads an eight-series workshop on Jewish holidays for pre-kindergarten children, 3 and 4 year old and their parents. First lesson is Sept. 14, and will focus on Rosh Hashanah. Activities include arts, crafts, cooking, stories and music. Children will learn how to recite Hebrew blessings. Classes run from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. or 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Participants must register for all eight classes. Cost is $12 for the first child, $80 for the second child and $60 for the third child. To register, call 978-470-1563.

Universalist Unitarian Church, 15 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill: Congregants are asked to bring water to pour into a common bowl as part of the annual water communion service tomorrow, 10:30 a.m.
