Groveland needs Veasey Park coordinator

By Sara Codair
Correspondent

GROVELAND — Veasey Park is the center of much of the town's social life, and it needs someone to oversee events there.

The park's Management Committee is looking for a new events coordinator. Current coordinator Megan Whithed will soon be leaving.

Management Committee member Claire Walsh said she would like to have the position filled by mid-October, or Nov. 1 at the latest.

"We will be looking for someone with at least two years experience," Walsh said. "The events manager is responsible for all rentals at the our facility."

Responsibilities of the job include taking phone calls, planning events, writing press releases and managing the park's Web site.

The Veasey Management Committee cannot afford to pay the events coordinator a salary, so the park will provide free rent in a cottage on the property in exchange for 25 hours of work per week, Walsh said.

She said heat and electricity are not included.

Walsh said the caretaker of the park is also paid with free rent instead of a salary.

There are benefits of having the employees living on the property for both the park and the employees.

"As far as this place goes, we might go a few days with no activity, so it is good to have someone there for security reasons," she said. "Plus, it's a beautiful place to live. You can't hear the cars on the road. There are walking trails, and a pond you can use a non-motorized boat in or fish in."

Walsh said the previous coordinator did a great job in the three years she was there, but is leaving because she bought a house in Haverhill and plans to start a family.

Applicants can submit their resumes with references to: Veasey Park Management Committee, Attention: Claire Walsh, 201 Washington St., Groveland, MA 01834. Applicants my call Walsh at 978-376-6779 with questions.
