Second teen arrested in Adelaide Avenue home invasion
METHUEN — The second of three men investigators said were involved in a Sept. 2 home invasion on Adelaide Avenue was arrested yesterday afternoon, police said.
Christian Elias, 18, of 702 Jackson St., was arrested without incident at 2:30 p.m. at his home on warrants charging him with home invasion, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of malicious damage to property over $250, police Lt. James Jajuga said.
Elias is scheduled to be arraigned today in Lawrence District Court.
Authorities allege Elias, along with Jordan O'Connell, 18, of 209 Ferry St., Lawrence, and an unidentified third man, went to the home of Jose Flores-Cruz, 20, of 60 Adelaide Ave., broke into the house, surprised a sleeping Flores-Cruz in his bedroom, and beat him with baseball bats.
O'Connell, a Central Catholic High School graduate, who was to have started his first day at Suffolk University on the morning of the home invasion, had been dropped off at the train station by his mother that morning, but instead went with Elias and the third person to Flores-Cruz's home, police said.
O'Connell was arrested after the victim was able to identify him as one of the three assailants.
O'Connell told police he had lost his keys and believed Flores-Cruz had found them and used them to enter the O'Connell home and steal $700, which he wanted to get back, police said.
O'Connell was released on $5,000 cash bail and ordered to attend school full time and stay away from the victim.
