SALEM — The Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce will host its 20th annual awards dinner tonight. The 2008-2009 board of directors¬ will be inducted, and Ann Lally of Salem Cooperative Bank will be recognized as the 2008¬ William A. Brown Distinguished Business Person of the Year.¬ Recipients of the Chairman's Award, Volunteer of the Year, Pillar Award, and the Impact Award also will be honored.

The dinner begins at 6 p.m. at the Granite Rose in Hampstead. For more information, call the Chamber of Commerce at 893-3177.

Pay-to-play proposal may be sidelined

LONDONDERRY — Budget Committee member Tom Freda said he will not reopen a discussion to charge fees to play some school sports.

Freda said a decision on fees would be up to the School Board anyway.

The Budget Committee meets again at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Town Hall.

Atkinson sprays for mosquitoes

ATKINSON — The town's mosquito control contractor will be in this week to spray parks, the school and Town Hall.

It's too early in the season to kill the pesky bugs' local habitat, but the selectmen decided to spray to best protect local residents against Eastern equine encephalitis, which was detected in a mosquito pool in Danville late last week.

Last year, a pool behind Town Hall tested positive.

'James and the Giant Peach' set for Sunday

PLAISTOW — The story comes alive for all children, the hearing impaired and the young at heart of the story of "James and the Giant Peach" on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Sign State Theatre Company will bring the story to life on the Timberlane Performing Arts Center stage, with sign language interpretation for the hearing impaired.

Tickets are $10 each or $8 apiece for groups of 10 or more.

Newton celebrates fall Saturday

NEWTON — The Newton Recreation Commission is hosting its annual Newton Fall Festival Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Greenie Park on Heath Street.

There will be games, contests, entertainment, demonstrations and food.
