Newton Carriage Barn program selling raffle tickets
NEWTON — The Carriage Barn Therapeutic Program is selling raffle tickets to raise money for the program, which enhances physical, psychological, cognitive, and emotional healing and strengthening through equine activities.
The grand prize for the raffle is a week's stay in a two-bedroom condominium at Orange Lake North Village in Kissimmee, Fla. The Carriage Barn is selling 500 tickets at $10 each, with the drawing set for Dec. 23.

Help young children learn how to read
HAMPSTEAD — At storytime next week, the library will offer a program from the Sylvan Learning Center designed to show parents ways to help their children with reading.
The presentation is free and is aimed at parents of children from infancy through second grade.
The program will be presented Monday, Oct. 6, at 1:30 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Car fans rev up for food
PLAISTOW — The Rockingham Nutrition Meals on Wheels Program was awarded a $522 check on Wednesday from the Plaistow Cruisers.
The group of fancy, restored car owners meet at Stillwell's Ice Cream each Wednesday in the summer to show off their wheels and socialize. They held a 50/50 raffle every week and donated the proceeds to Meals on Wheels.

PLAISTOW — The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will host the parish's first Oktoberfest celebration from 5 to 10 P.M. on Saturday. Tickets are $20 ahead of time or $25 at the door of the Holy Angels Parish Center.
Enjoy an evening of authentic German food, from sauerbraten, hot purple cabbage and potatoes to beer and apple crisp. And, of course, there will be dancing to the music of a 12-piece German band.

A dinner from around the world
HAMPSTEAD — St. Christopher's Episcopal Church will host its eighth annual International Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 4.
The event features food from Norway, Germany, Scotland, Poland, Greece, Ethiopia and many other countries.
There are seatings at 4 and 6 p.m. at the church.

Get out pen and paper
WINDHAM — Ever think of writing your life stories?
Starting Oct. 8, Anne Kelsey will present six weeks of classes to help participants write six to 12 personal essays.
The classes take place on Wednesdays through Nov. 12, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., upstairs at Town Hall on North Lowell Road.
No previous writing experience is necessary. Kelsey will discuss a new topic each week. These include point of view, character, plot, dialogue, setting and theme.
The cost is $45. All materials will be provided.

Learn CPR in Hampstead
HAMPSTEAD — A CPR class is being offered at Hampstead Public Library on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Participants will learn how to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation on adults and children. They also will learn how to help choking victims and how to identify the signs of a stroke.
The course is open to high-school students and adults. The cost is $20.
