Sandown's Old Meeting House open house Oct. 12

SANDOWN — An open house at the town's historic Old Meeting House will give residents a chance to see where the town made important decisions many years ago.

The annual fall open house at the town landmark on Fremont Road will be Sunday, Oct. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. Those attending can take a tour, enjoy a cup of hot mulled cider or cold cider, and try out the uncomfortable pauper's pew. In addition, stories and legends about the meetinghouse will be shared with those who attend.

On the National Register of Historic Places, the building has remained virtually unchanged in more than two centuries, including an 11-foot high pulpit inside the room, where church services and various town gatherings were once held.

The open house is sponsored by the Old Meeting House Historical Association.
