TOPSFIELD — New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady should be on the sidelines cheering on his teammates while he recovers from recent knee surgery.
That's according to almost 90 percent of the 35 people who participated in The Eagle-Tribune's unscientific survey at the Topsfield Fair this week.
Many of the same people were not optimistic about retailers offering shoppers any spectacular pre-Christmas bargains on Black Friday, the big shopping day after Thanksgiving, despite these tough economic times.
There are exceptions to everything, however, and Don Gaudet of Ipwich and Coley Foley of Tewksbury, both enjoying a day at the fair, proved to be two.
Foley said Brady should take it easy and rest.
"He just had knee surgery," Foley said. "He doesn't need to get hurt."
And Gaudet was among the few who expected there would be deep discounts to lure seasonal shoppers.
Retailers, he predicts, will be "trying hard to make some money back."
Coming in first on the survey's list for favorite reality TV show was ABC's "Extreme Home Makeover."
"It gives people hope," Matt Mogavero, a student at the Higgins Middle School in Peabody said of the show.
"It should be a good example for everybody," echoed fellow student
Sean Walsh. "It's a good thing for people."
But another Higgins student, Brian Onessimo broke with the pack and endorsed "Hell's Kitchen", saying "I like all the dishes they make."
