Business park owner fined for unlicensed generator

ANDOVER — The owners of the 100 Minuteman Road business park will pay a $17,250 fine for the installation and operation of an unlicensed diesel-powered generator, the state Department of Environmental Protection has announced.

Property owners 100 Minuteman LLC installed the 1.2 megawatt emergency generator in 1996 without prior approval or registration with MassDEP, according to a statement released by the department.

Emergency generators of that size require prior approval before installation and operation due to their potential to increase emissions by greater than 1 ton per year, according to the statement.

MassDEP inspected 100 Minuteman Road on May 29.

One of Andover's largest commercial and industrial property owners, Minuteman LLC has agreed to pay the fine and submit a permit application for the generator within 60 days. They will also pay $3,860 in permit fees.

Minuteman LLC paid $889,200 in taxes last year.
