Methuen puts ends plans for longer school day

The Methuen School Committee Monday night voted unanimsouly to order Superintendent Jeanne Whitten to "cease all discussions and efforts to promote" the plan for an eight-hour day at two grammar schools.

Whitten, after the vote, said she will have her administration "put it to sleep," ending seven months of heated meetings, discussion and debate over the plan that, if approved, could have taken effect in September 2008 at the Comprehensive and Timony grammar schools.
