Cigarettes, lottery tickets taken

LAWRENCE — A carton of cigarettes and three lottery tickets were stolen from the 7-Eleven at 393 Broadway, police said.

The store clerk told Officer Thomas Murphy that a young man he had never seen before walked up to the counter with a carton of milk and a bottle of juice about 12:56 a.m. Tuesday. The man asked for a carton of Newport cigarettes, valued at $78.41, and three $5 lottery tickets, the clerk said.

The young man then asked for aspirin, which was a few feet away and the clerk said when he turned around to get it, the young man grabbed the cigarettes and lottery tickets and ran from the store.

The man was described as wearing a blue shirt and jeans, police said.

Officers searched the area but were unable to find the man.
