St. Anthony's honors its veterans who gave all
LAWRENCE — St. Anthony's Maronite Church will honor more than 100 of its veterans Saturday, concluding a yearlong project initiated by parishioner Christine Kattar to acknowledge the contributions made by the church's "silent heroes" who served in the armed forces.
Ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m., when the church dedicates a monument erected to deceased veterans at St. Anthony's Cemetery, off Lowell Street (Route 113) in Methuen.
A celebration and liturgy in honor of veterans will follow at 4 p.m. in St. Anthony's Church, 170 Lawrence St., Lawrence. A Wall of Honor will be displayed at a reception in the parish hall at 5 p.m.
Kattar was motivated to launch the project out of concern that the nation has been lax in honoring veterans, particularly her own father, the late Thomas Kattar, a highly decorated Army veteran of World War II. Kattar embarked on the Wall of Honor project to honor her father and others who made sacrifices for the country.
