Cedar Crest owner eyes North Andover site

NORTH ANDOVER — Mary Claire Kennedy said she's "most interested" in the Mango Grille at 585 Chickering Road as a possible new home for her Cedar Crest restaurant when the Lawrence landmark finally closes its kitchen a week from today.

But despite a report that the former Lawrence mayor was ready to make the move, she said last night that "it's still a question mark."

"It's still a rumor right now. Hopefully, within a week, we'll know more," Kennedy said.

"I'd like to be somewhere by the first of January. We're out of Lawrence a week from (today). That's it, for sure," she said, noting that closing of the 73-year-old restaurant was set for Labor Day, but keeps getting delayed.

Kennedy has been scouting properties in the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire since April — looking for a location that has adequate parking, a large kitchen and an affordable price.

Every location she considered lacked at least one of the three requirements she sought.

"This one has all three. It's a good location. It's for sale. But it's not definite," she said.
