Honoring veterans on the weekend

SATURDAY

Lawrence: Ceremony at 10:45 a.m. at South Lawrence East School, 165 Crawford St. Father Marc Bishop of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, is guest speaker. North Shore Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform and Joseph Grieve will sing patriotic songs. Refreshments follow. Sponsored by the Lawrence Veterans Service Office.

Methuen: Dedication of veterans monument at 2 p.m. in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Route 113. Celebration and Mass follow at St. Anthony's Maronite Church, 170 Lawrence St., Lawrence, where at 5 p.m. a wall honoring all the church's veterans will be on display in the parish hall.

North Andover: A Support the Troops care package drive, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Market Basket in the North Andover Mall, Route 114. Food will be used to stuff Christmas stockings for troops in Iraq. Sponsored by the Merrimack Valley Military Families Support Group and the Veterans North East Outreach Center.

SUNDAY

Plaistow: Timberlane Community Band performs a free concert at 2 p.m. in the Timberlane Performing Arts Center on Greenough Road. It will be accompanied by a slide presentation and several local veterans will speak. Refreshments will be served.
