Taxpayers can see their new property values

METHUEN — People can see the proposed values of their property on the Internet or at City Hall today through Nov. 25.

Officials have adjusted the overall valuation of city properties to reflect current market trends since the last revaluation program, which was done in 2006.

People can view their property values at www.cityofmethuen.net or in the assessor's office in Room 103 at City Hall during business hours. The assessor's office encourages all taxpayers to review their new proposed assessments and if they have questions, they can contact the assessor's office at 978-983-8530.

Esperanza to honor major benefactor

LAWRENCE — Esperanza Academy will receive and dedicate an oil portrait painting on Saturday in honor of its board member and benefactor, Rosalyn Kempton Wood of Andover.

Esperanza Academy, School of Hope (www.esperanzaacademy.org) on Garden Street is a privately-funded middle school in Lawrence for girls of diverse faiths, races and cultures. Its mission is to create a rich academic environment fostering individual achievement and success as well as community commitment among students and their families.

The ceremony will be sponsored by Boston Intercollegiate Alumnae Association of Kappa Kappa Gamma National Sorority, a philanthropic group supporting the Academy. Wood, widow of the Cornelius Ayer Wood Jr., is a long-standing BIAA member.

BIAA members will present the portrait at their service day on Saturday, when members will donate their services from 9 a.m. to noon. The painting by Cambridge artist and BIAA member Catherine Ezell will be prominently displayed in the main gathering hall at the school.

Sign-ups for "child find' ends tomorrow

METHUEN — Parents who think their child may have an area of learning weakness or special needs are asked to call the Special Education Department at the Methuen Public Schools.

School officials are holding a "child find" screening where they screen children for special needs. The screening, which is by appointment only, is Nov. 24 at Comprehensive Grammar School.

To schedule an appointment, call the Special Education Department at 978-722-6024 by tomorrow. The screening is for children ages 2 years and 9 months to 5. The screening process is voluntary.

Methuen mayor hosts call-in show

METHUEN — Did choosing Sarah Palin help or hurt John McCain? Why did Barack Obama take independent voters?

Mayor William Manzi is hosting a live call-in show tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. His guest will be David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center. Paleologos, who conducted presidential polls, has a unique perspective on the presidential and state elections.

Residents can tune into Comcast channel 22 or Verizon channel 33 between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., to participate.

Sharing our Bounty for Lazarus House on Friday

ANDOVER — Sharing Our Bounty, an annual dinner-auction to benefit Lazarus House, will take place Friday at the Wyndham Andover hotel on 123 Old River Road.

The event runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and WCVB's Amalia Barreda will serve as the master of ceremonies.

The Christ Our Servant Award will be presented to Lawrence firefighter Gary Clement and Ashley Bolis, founder of Warm and Fuzzy, a coat collection for the needy.

Proceeds will help Lazarus House provide opportunities for more women, men and children.

The event starts with a reception and silent auction at 6:30, followed by dinner at 7:30, and awards at 8:30.

Items up for bid include: airline tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S.; one-day Walt Disney World Park Hopper passes; a 62-inch flat-screen TV; an iPod Nano; lift passes to Wachusett Mountain; Bruins, Celtics and Red Sox tickets; and restaurant gift certificates.
