NH residents lose power again on Christmas morning

Thousands of households in New Hampshire woke up Christmas morning with no power, just two weeks after a destructive ice storm left some residents without electricity for more than a week.

While the outages were spread across the state, locally, homes in Atkinson, Plaistow, Newton, Seabrook, South Hampton, Hampstead, Kingston and Hampton Falls were affected.

Power went out early in the morning and was restored to most households by noon, according to Unitil representatives.

A transmission line came down early in the morning, knocking out power to Southern New Hampshire customers. Unitil crews got the line back up at around 10 a.m., but it went down again a short time later and had to be repaired a second time.

About 5,000 Unitil customers were affected.
