HAVERHILL — Late this morning, police responded to a report of an attempted robbery of an armored vehicle that was parked in Riversedge Plaza.

Police said a call came in shortly after 11 a.m. indicating one of the armored vehicle's guards was attacked by a man while another man waited in a nearby get-away car. Police said there was a report of shots fired. Police said the two men fled in a car with Florida license plates. Witnesses reported that the suspects were heading down Lincoln Avenue in the direction of Mill Street.

A Haverhill officer who was working a construction detail on Concord Street was notified to be on the alert for the car. Police said the officer saw the car and followed it along Kenoza Avenue and up Route 108 (Newton Road). On-duty officers were notified by the detail officer and were able to catch up with the suspects just after they had crossed over into Plaistow, N.H.

Police stopped the two men around 200 yards north of the Haverhill line. Police said the suspects were arrested shortly after being stopped. One report indicated the suspects' vehicle may have had a bullet hole somewhere near the rear license plate. Police said there was no indication that the suspects were armed.
