Participants will learn how to choose the correct wines for meals and entertaining. The event also features a silent auction of items donated by local merchants and individuals. Plants, floral arrangements and garden decorations will be offered at attractive prices.

Proceeds will support service projects in the Merrimack Valley, which help improve the quality of life for women and girls.

Post office to hold passport day

The post office in Washington Square will hold a special passport day May 17 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Postmaster Donna Legro said the special hours should make it easier for parents with minor children applying for a passport because both parents must accompany children under 16 years of age. There are new regulations requiring a passport for all air travel to and from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The post office also takes passport photos for $15.

Legro recommends applying for a passport at least two months prior to traveling to avoid extra costs and to expedite the process. People must bring evidence of citizenship, two passport photos, and current photo identification. Passport fees can be paid by check or cash. Passports cost $100 for people age 16 years and older and $85 for persons under age 16. The cost is $75 for renewal of passports.

Passport applications can be downloaded online at www.usps.com/passport.

More information is available by calling 978-373-5417.
