HAVERHILL — A city man told police he filed his tax return on Feb. 26, only to find out someone beat him to it.
The man told police he filed the return electronically and was subsequently notified by the Internal Revenue Service a return had already been filed using his Social Security number.
The IRS told the man the return had been issued and mailed to an address in Atlanta. The return was sent back to the IRS marked unservable, the man said.
The man told police he then sent a copy of his tax return in manually. The IRS asked him to file a report with police.
Police advised the victim to contact the credit bureau and the Social Security office.
