The Laurie Chase KidsFest will be May 18, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In the event of rain again, the festival will be in the Merrimack Street parking garage next to Pentucket Bank. The event was canceled last Sunday because of rain.
The festival will be in Washington Square, along Washington Street, Merrimack Street and in Columbus Park.
There will be activities for all ages, including Candy Land, a Doll Parade down Merrimack Street, a junior tractor pull, face painting, crafts, food from a variety of local restaurants and vendors, and many other games and activities for children and teens.
The Junior Idol competition, martial arts demonstration, musical entertainment by the Michael and Marissa Rock Band and Josh Williams, a dance demonstration by Pattavina's Dance Academy followed by the popular Haverhill Idol competition take place on a stage across from the post office.
This event is made possible by support from Merrimack Valley Hospital, Trinity Ambulance, Pentucket Bank, Diversified Business Systems and Little Sprouts.
Whittier holds freshman orientation
Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School's freshmen orientation is tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This is for all incoming ninth-graders who have confirmed their acceptance to the high school for this fall.
Students will take a placement test to determine their reading and math levels. During that time, parents are invited to attend an introductory meeting with the school's administrative team as well as tour the school. Lunch will be provided for parents and students. The school is at 115 Amesbury Line Road, off Route 110.
Summer basketball camps offered
HoopGains will hold its summer basketball camps and training at the Rockingham Athletic Club, 175 Plaistow Road, Plaistow, N.H.

Ladies Auxiliary has events
VFW Ladies Auxiliary National President Virginia Carman will arrive at T.F. Green Airport in Warwick, R.I., on May 18 at 4:15 p.m.
Those who wish to greet her are welcome. A tour of historic Boston with lunch at Quincy Market is May 19.
The state convention breakfast is June 7 at 8 a.m. at the Burlington Marriott Hotel. A fundraiser breakfast to benefit Mae Perkins, conductress of the Ladies Auxiliary, is May 18 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the VFW Post 2017, 84 Eastern Ave., Dedham. Admission is $6.50. Memorial Day Services will be held May 25 at 1 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
The 2008 Convention Fund Chicken Bake is July 13 at noon at Abington Post 5737, 30 Central St., Abington. Tickets are $11 per person, $8 for children under 10. The event will feature a gift table, assorted raffles, cash bar and white elephant table.

Chamber holds annual dinner and awards
The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce will host its annual dinner June 5 at DiBurro's function hall. The meeting is at 5:30 p.m., followed by cocktails, dinner and the evening's program.
This year's award recipients are: John Linnehan (posthumously), Charles E. Billups Award; Warren Gerety, Laurie Chase Community Leadership Award; and Jean MacDougall-Tattan, Jerry Loy and Barbara Rowell, Outstanding Director Award.
The organization will thank outgoing Chairman of the Board Jefferson Davis and welcome incoming Chairman Thomas Faulkner. Guest entertainer is comedian Juston McKinney.
