Groveland Scouts collect old electronics from residents

GROVELAND — People can help both the environment and Cub Scout Pack 113 on Saturday by bringing old electronics to Perry Park on the corner of King Street and Route 113.

For a small fee, the Scouts will accept unwanted electronics such as computer monitors, TVs, microwaves and VCRs. The items collected will be recycled by Allied Computer Brokers.

The collection will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Cub Scouts are not new to the recycling world.

"We did it a year and a half ago and it was a huge success," said Pattie Garzone, whose son and husband are involved in Scouting. "It's what Cub Scouts are all about."

This fundraiser is beneficial all around. Not only does it help the Scouts and the environment, but it is also beneficial for those getting rid of the electronics, organizers said.

"You can't throw away most of the stuff we are collecting. It has to be recycled no matter what," Garzone said. "If you go to a dump, you're going to have to pay a fee."

For those who can't make it to the drop-off day, such as the elderly or people with large items, the Cub Scouts will do pickups.

Pickups will take place on Friday after 4 p.m. Arrangements can be made by calling Garzone at 978-521-1222 or e-mailing Garzone@comcast.net.
