Three booms and three flashes Tree falls on power lines, startles neighbors in Groveland

GROVELAND To Bob Gagnon, it looked and sounded like a fast-moving thunderstorm — three big booms and three flashes of light.

But yesterday was clear, not a hint of a storm.

The flashes and booms were the result of a gust of wind knocking over a big pine tree, which fell on three major power lines running through the neighborhood of Ashcroft Terrace and Pandora Drive.

The result: A 10-minute power failure and a lot of excitement for neighbors who saw the flashes and heard the booms which happened about 3 p.m., Gagnon said.

"I saw the reflection (of the flash) in my TV," said Gagnon, who lives at 10 Ashcroft Terrace. "The first bang made me jump back 2 feet."

He said the tree fell on lines at the intersection of Ashcroft Terrace and Pandora Drive, just across the street from his house.

Early last night workers from a tree removal company were removing the tree from the lines.
