HAVERHILL — The girlfriend of a man who was shot in the foot during last week's home invasion told police it probably happened because he often flashes money around.

According to court documents, the woman said her boyfriend, Gerald Boucher, 25, of 352 Primrose St., had recently sold a vehicle and had several thousand dollars in his possession. He had been showing the money off — leading some people to believe there was lots of cash in his home, the documents said.

The woman also told police that Boucher said he was shot by Hector "Ed-O" Colon, 23, of 5 4th Ave., during a struggle in Boucher's hallway. Last week, police issued a warrant for Colon's arrest. The search ended Friday when Colon surrendered at Haverhill District Court, police said. He was ordered held at the Middleton jail pending his arraignment yesterday.

Court records show that Colon has a lengthy adult criminal history, including at least 18 court appearances dating back to 2002. He had appeared in Haverhill District Court, Salem District Court and Salem Superior Court on charges of vandalism, larceny, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, making threats, and receiving stolen property. He served jail time for some of the offenses.

Colon's juvenile record includes 24 court appearances from 1999 to 2001 on charges of receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, attaching the wrong motor vehicle plates, larceny and possession of burglary tools.

Police had been searching for Colon and continue to search for a man court records identified as "C-Money," since they and three other men wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts forced their way into Boucher's Primrose Street apartment the afternoon of May 12 in search of money and cocaine, police said. Police said their search of the home did not turn up drugs.

During the home invasion, Boucher was pistol-whipped and shot in the foot before the five men fled, police said.

At Colon's arraignment yesterday in Haverhill District Court, Judge Patricia Dowling ordered that he be held without bail and to appear at a hearing on Friday to determine whether he is a danger to society and if he should continue to be held in jail until his anticipated trial. The judge also requested Colon be assigned a court-appointed Superior Court attorney to represent him.

Colon is being held on charges of home invasion, armed assault with intent to murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card.

Three of the men charged in the home invasion — Luis Torres, 23, of 3 Evergreen Drive, Bradford; Jason Perry, 19, of 41 McIntosh Road, Danville, N.H.; and Steven Listro Jr., 18, of 4 Birdsall Lane, Atkinson, N.H. — were captured during a manhunt in the Hilldale Avenue area by local and state police who used a police dog and helicopter.

They were charged with home invasion, armed assault with intent to murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card. Police said they recovered two handguns — a .22-caliber pistol and a .38-caliber revolver.

One of the defendants, Torres, told police that Hector Colon was his cousin.

Torres, Perry and Listro were ordered held without bail pending a hearing yesterday to determine whether they pose a danger to the community and should remain jailed pending their trials. That hearing was rescheduled for today but may need to be rescheduled again due to a possible scheduling conflict on the part of one of the defendant's lawyers.

During the investigation into last week's home invasion, police interviewed a woman who claimed she was Colon's girlfriend. According to court documents, the woman told police that Hector Colon was the father of her 18-month-old baby and that she is pregnant with another of his children.
