HAVERHILL — Mayor James Fiorentini is refusing to say what the job status is of a deputy fire chief charged with violating a restraining order.
Deputy Chief Robert Buckley Jr., 50, of 11 Academy Lane in Bradford, was arrested Saturday night after his wife sought the assistance of police and requested an emergency restraining order against her husband. He was released on personal recognizance, and he was ordered to submit to alcohol and drug screenings.
Monday, Fiorentini told The Eagle-Tribune that he planned to talk with city Personnel Director Mary Carrington to review the rules regarding such matters. Yesterday, Fiorentini refused to answer questions, and through his secretary he offered "no comment."
Buckley's wife told police that Buckley had been making threats and accusations using text messaging, e-mails and phone calls.
During his booking at the police station, Buckley complained of chest pains and was taken to Merrimack Valley Hospital. He was arraigned in his hospital bed, where a judge released him on personal recognizance. It was unclear whether he was still hospitalized as of press time.
