Another Haverhill police cruiser involved in crash

HAVERHILL - A police cruiser was involved in an accident on Groveland Street last night.

Police, however, were mum on the crash, refusing to release any information about it last night, including the name of the officer who was driving the cruiser.

The accident happened around 8:30 p.m., when cruiser No. 11 collided with an Oldsmobile Bravada sports utility vehicle near the intersection of Groveland and Greenville streets.

No one was seriously hurt, though both vehicles were badly damaged in the crash. Most of the damage was to the front ends of the cars, closest to the driver's side, indicating they had crashed nearly head-on.

It was the third police cruiser involved in an accident this year. In May, a police car driving 57 mph on its way to a call about a house break-in crashed into a Ford Taurus driven by a 79-year-old woman. The officer, John Little, was cleared of any blame.

A week later, another cruiser veered off the road and crashed into a parked truck. The accident was blamed on an unspecified medical issue suffered by the officer.

State police are assisting Haverhill police with the investigation into last night's accident.
