Haverhill woman receives counterfeit check, police say

HAVERHILL — A woman told police she received a check for nearly $5,000 from a New York construction company and took it to the Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union to cash it.

It was then she learned the $4,945 check from the company was counterfeit, and was charged a $15 surcharge by the credit union, police said.

The victim told police she had not been expecting a check.

She was advised to return to the credit union and tell them a report was on file with police.

The incident was reported at 8:39 a.m. Wednesday.

Arrest: Shane Walker, 30, 78 Eudora St., assault and battery on a household member, three counts, 78 Eudora St., 7:30 p.m.

Noise complaint: 19 Dudley St., 9:08 p.m.

Noise complaint: 52 Howard St., 9:16 p.m.
