HAVERHILL — Jewelry, cash, GPS devices and home electronics were among the items stolen in two housebreaks and two car breaks reported in the city Monday.
Police said a father and daughter returned to their Margin Street home about 1:18 a.m. Monday, to find it had been broken into and ransacked.
The victims told police a Sharp 20-inch television valued at $400, a TomTom GPS device valued at $250, a Saugus High School class ring valued at $300, and more than 100 pieces of jewelry including rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces with an estimated value of $10,000 were missing.
A Presidential Drive resident told police she discovered her 11-year-old son's video game equipment was missing from the living room.
Taken were a Sony hand-held PlayStation valued at $200, a hand-held Gameboy valued at $200, two hand-held Gameboys valued at $100, seven games for the Sony PlayStation valued at $280, 45 games for the Gameboy valued at $200 and a Sony laptop computer valued at $200.
The victim told police she had discovered her front door did not shut properly and could not be locked so she had the maintenance department at the complex come and fix it Monday and that is when she discovered her son's property was missing.
She told police she did not know when the house was entered or when the property was taken.
The theft was reported at 10:42 a.m., police said.
Thieves smashed the driver's side window of a 2005 Jeep Liberty parked at the owner's Lexington Avenue home and stole a Magellan GPS valued at $300.
The victim told police the GPS was the only item taken from the vehicle, which was parked on the street in front of her home at the time of the break.
The incident was reported at 8:18 a.m. Monday, police said.
Thieves entered an unlocked Plymouth Voyager minivan parked at a Lowell Avenue hotel, and stole a wallet containing $300 cash and assorted credit cards, a Garmin GPS valued at $500, a Minolta camera valued at $550, and three disposable cameras valued at $45.
The theft was reported to police at 11:47 a.m. Monday.
