Runners, don't forget, one of New England's great races takes place Sunday morning in downtown Haverhill.
The 22nd annual Bobby Bell Race will start promptly at 11 a.m., in front of the Lasting Room Grill, 122 Washington St.

McBride's presents band festival tomorrow
J.P. McBride's Pub is offering an Outdoor Band Festival tomorrow, 2 to 9 p.m., at the pub, 27 Lafayette Square.
This year the theme is "Octoberfest," and will feature local bands such as Have At It, Social Groove and several others. Like last year, a stage and beer service will be set up outside.
Fly For Freedom kicks off this weekend
The Fly For Freedom and Salute to Gold Star Mothers at Lawrence Municipal Airport will kick off Sunday, after it was postponed due to rain last month.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It is sponsored by the Merrimack Valley Military Family Support Group and Eagle East Aviation. Pilots charge people 25 cents per each pound they weigh for a 15-minute scenic flight around the Merrimack Valley.
The money raised goes to the new Disabled Veterans Home Ownership Program run by the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center in Haverhill.
There also will be military vehicles, Rolling Thunder and Patriot Guard Rider motorcycles, a moonwalk, face painting and information booths.

Surgeon to talk about breast cancer
Merrimack Valley Hospital is offering a free Meet the Expert medical seminar in the hospital auditorium Oct. 23, 6 to 7 p.m. The seminar, presented by Haverhill surgeon Dr. Kathryn Hughes, will focus on the real meaning of breast cancer awareness: Who gets breast cancer and how common it is; strategies to avoid getting breast cancer; breast cancer assessment; and the importance of breast health screenings.

Meet the Expert is a series of medical presentations offered at both Merrimack Valley Hospital and the Haverhill YMCA throughout the fall and winter months.

Haverhill Public Library will be closed Monday for the Columbus Day holiday.
Older talented folks needed
People 50 and older with special talents are invited to audition for the Northern Essex Community College Life Long Learning program's second annual talent show Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. in the Technology Center on the Haverhill campus. There is a $1 admission fee the day of the show.
Last year, 19 contestants participated for first, second, and third place. A panel of three judges will vote on the individual acts.

Talents may include singing, writing and reciting poetry, comedy, dancing, or juggling.
Life long Learning is a program of lectures, study groups and trips for adults offered through NECC. Meditation, yoga at Universalist Unitarian Church
The UUCH meditation group meets at Universalist Unitarian Church of Haverhill at 5 p.m. Sunday. This group is open to all and requires no previous experience. The meeting consists of qi gong, kai gong, and sitting meditation. The form of qi gong taught is the spiritual practice intended to open the body with gentle movement and calm the mind. Kai gong, a form of Buddhist yoga, is very gentle movement to stretch the body.

Garden Club meets
The Haverhill Garden Club will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, in Johnson Auditorium at Haverhill Public Library. All are welcome.
