Lawyer addresses concerns of Haverhill landlords

Attorney Mark Burrell will speak to members of the Haverhill Landlord Guild at the group's monthly meeting at 6 tonight.

Burrell will talk about landlord/tenant and real estate law, as well as new legislation and its impact on property owners. He also will answer questions.

Burrell is on the board of the Greater Lowell Landlords Association and is a member of the Metrowest Property Owners Association.

The meeting will be in the Haverhill Public Library in the Milhandler Room. The public is invited.

Parent Academy to meet

The Haverhill public schools and the District Parent Council are sponsoring the Parent Academy on Wednesday night. The topic is "Navigating Your Children Through the Haverhill Public Schools."

Registration and refreshments will be from 5:45 to 6 p.m., at Consentino Middle School, 585 Washington St. The presentation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Parents will be provided with ideas on how to prepare for the unique experience each grade brings.

Chamber to host Business After Hours

The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce will host a fall Business After Hours networking event at the Lowell Five, 750 Main St., on Nov. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Business After Hours networking events are held monthly and hosted by member businesses as a way for businessmen and women to meet and network with fellow chamber members as well as potential members who also are invited. Those who participate are invited to enjoy food and drink courtesy of Lowell Five. Chamber members will donate raffle prizes to be won by those who attend.

The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce serves six communities in Massachusetts and eight in Southern New Hampshire.

Confirmation of your attendance at the Business After Hours event is by contacting Jen Cantwell at the chamber office, 978-373-5663 or jen@haverhillchamber.com. The event is $10 for chamber members and $15 for nonmembers.

Disabled vets to meet on Nov. 5 at City Hall

The Hannah Duston Chapter 20 of the Disabled American Veterans will meet Nov. 5 at 6 p.m., in the basement of City Hall. The chapter usually meets the second Tuesday of the month.

Commander Gerard Boucher urges members of the chapter to become more active. He also invites veterans who are eligible to join the DAV to become members of the Hannah Duston chapter. More information is available from Boucher at 978-521-3982.

Those who report to the meeting by 5:30 p.m. can enjoy pizza and soda.

Stores, 4-H clubs collect food for the needy

Cumberland Farms, which has a store at 323 Main St., has partnered with 4-H clubs in a food drive to benefit food pantries in the state.

From now to Nov. 15, people may drop off nonperishable food at any of 190 Cumberland Farms in the state.

Members of 4-H are trying to collect 12,000 pounds of food and deliver it to food pantries here and elsewhere in the state.
