Winnekenni Castle will present a free concert by the acoustic blues band Sole City and Friends on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Musicians Bob Valyou and Aaron Seibert will be joined by special guests. John Carver will accompany the duo on percussion and David Comtois will be on an arsenal of bass guitars. Refreshments will be available. The concert is presented by the nonprofit Winnekenni Foundation Inc. and is sponsored in part by the Haverhill Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Whittier High open house Sunday
A robot that climbs stairs, a garden pergola built by carpentry and masonry students and dozens of other exhibits will be featured at an open house on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School.
Graphics students will run a portrait studio, students majoring in childcare designed a day care center and telecommunications students will explain their SMART Board display. Prospective students can meet with coaches and athletes in the gymnasium at 2:30 p.m. The Whittier Players will deliver a choral performance at 3 p.m. Guidance counselors will explain the admissions process and Superintendent William DeRosa will host three meetings with parents beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Information on student services, including Title 1, ELL, and special education will be in the library from 1 to 4 p.m. Both school stores, which are run by marketing students, will be open and complimentary refreshments will be in the Poet's Inn.
Disabled American Veterans to meet
Disabled American Veterans, Hannah Dustin Chapter 20, will meet Tuesday at noon in the veteran's basement room of City Hall, 4 Summer St.
Those attending are asked to use the entrance across from the Elks Lodge. The handicap entrance is on Main Street. Members, prospective members and those who would like help with their claims for benefits and entitlements are invited. This will be the last official meeting of the year. Castle hosts psychic reading night
Winnekenni Castle presents Angel Card gallery readings on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The event will feature special psychic angel readings done in evening group sessions and special guest psychic reader Helene from Salem, Mass. Cost is $35 per person in advance. Registration is by e-mailing winnekenni@yahoo.com or calling 978-521-1686.
Contractors needed for volunteer projects
This year, the Rebuilding Together organization has received more applications for home repairs than expected and is in need of contractors to do preliminary visits with a house selection committee member.
Licensed contractors, plumber or electricians available to visit one or two applicant homes in November or December are asked to call 978-469-0800 or e-mail RTogether@verizon.net.
Applications for Christmas assistance available
The Salvation Army is accepting applications for Christmas assistance.
Applicants are asked to bring identifications for all adults, proof of residency, 30 days of income verification, and Mass health or birth certificates for any children in the household. Applications can be made by calling 978-374-7571 or visiting The Salvation Army, 395 Main St.
