The Salvation Army is accepting applications for Christmas assistance.
Applicants are asked to bring identifications for all adults, proof of residency, 30 days of income verification, and Mass health or birth certificates for any children in the household. Applications can be made by calling 978-374-7571 or visiting The Salvation Army, 395 Main St.
Downtown businesses hold food drive
The Wingate Street Arts District is holding a food drive now through Christmas to benefit Emmaus Inc., which provides housing and services to the homeless in Haverhill.
The Wicked Big Cafe, Positive Images, Second Thoughts, Angles & Art, and Margot's Gallery are collecting nonperishable food items to feed the homeless assisted by Emmaus. People are asked to bring canned goods, pasta, cereal and other food items to the Wingate Street Arts District. More information is available by calling 978-373-0200.
Christmas Kettle kickoff breakfast planned
The Salvation Army is starting off the Christmas kettle season this year with a kickoff breakfast honoring Haverhill heroes on Thursday from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at DiBurro's function hall in Ward Hill.

Pentucket High hosts family friendly show
The Pentucket Fine & Performing Arts Foundation will present its sixth annual "A Cappella Night'' on Nov. 13.
This family-friendly event kicks off at 7 p.m. in the Pentucket Regional High School auditorium, 24 Main St., West Newbury. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for senior citizens, students and children. Refreshments will be sold. There will be a raffle for a copy of the Doo Wop Shop's latest CD. Haverhill Crossings has harvest craft fair
A harvest craft fair will be held Nov. 14 at Haverhill Crossings senior living complex, 254 Amesbury Road (Route 110).
The fair is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the public is welcome to stop by and shop for gourmet foods, crafts, baked goods and other items by local artisans. Light refreshments will be served. Reservations must be made by calling 978-556-1600.
Castle hosts psychic readings
Winnekenni Castle will hold an evening of psychic readings on Nov. 19 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Appointments will be booked at the door only. Cost is $20 per 15-minute session. Readers are Judith-Anne, Valeria and Olga. This is the castle's last psychic evening for the year. The next event will be in the spring. Coffeehouse hosts folk music
Folk music recording artist Cliff Eberhardt will perform Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. at the New Moon Coffeehouse at Universalist Unitarian Church, 16 Ashland St.

Center has vendor gift fair
Residents of Hannah Duston Healthcare Center, 126 Monument St., will hold their annual vendor gift fair and raffle Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the activities room.
The event benefits the resident activity fund and will feature gift items from Arnie Mendelsohn of Rosemont Station/Merrimack Valley Hospital, gift baskets from McNutts and items from other vendors. More information is available from Jean Diamontopoulos at 978-373-1747.
