HAVERHILL — Police are asking for the public's help in finding a man accused of hitting another man in the head with a baseball bat.

Deputy Chief Donald Thompson said police have an arrest warrant for Noel Toledo, 19, of 45 Nichols St. Toledo is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to murder.

Police said that early Saturday morning, Toledo hit a 20-year-old man twice in the head with a bat, causing serious injury.

Patrick Moro, of 321âÑ2 Nichols St., was struck in the head twice during a fight on Nichols Street shortly after midnight, according to police.

Moro was transported to Lawrence General Hospital and then transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was treated and released, Thompson said.

Anyone with information about Toledo's whereabouts is asked to call Detective Glenn Fogarty at 978-373-1212, ext. 570.

Police said Toledo is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 210 pounds. He has dark hair and brown eyes.

Police were called to Nichols Street early Saturday morning because "people were engaged in a fight," Thompson said.

The suspect had fled by the time police arrived, he said.

It is not clear what the men were fighting about, the deputy chief said.

Police continue to investigate.

Nichols Street is in the Acre neighborhood, which is known for its street crime.
