Man hit by car in Haverhill in serious condition
HAVERHILL — A man who told police he is homeless was struck by a car as he walked across River Street Wednesday night.
Albert Vigeant, 39, was thrown onto the hood and windshield of the car when he was struck about 8:30 p.m., police said.
He was treated at the scene and taken to Lawrence General Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he was listed in serious but stable condition, police said.
The 2002 Honda Civic that struck Vigeant was driven by Catherine Wilber, 33, of Manchester, Mass., Haverhill police Safety Officer Edward Watson said.
Wilber was traveling east on River Street, near Niagara Street, and told police that Vigeant suddenly appeared in front of her car, Watson said.
He said Wilber's car was traveling about 35 mph at the time of the accident. No citations have been issued and the investigation continues, police said.
