Tight budget year ahead in Sandown

By Penny Williams
Staff writer

SANDOWN — Department heads have been put on notice that it's going to be a tight year for budgets.

While the budgeting process won't start until early August, the Budget Committee has sent a letter to all department heads saying the goal is to hold the budget at or below the cost-of-living increase, anticipated to be around 2.5 percent.

"This will only be possible with the cooperation of each and every department in town," the letter said.

Department heads also got a thorough review of the proposed purchasing policy from the selectmen. Department heads would have to follow the policy, if it's approved at the selectmen's next meeting, with the goal of getting the best price for goods and services, according to selectmen's Chairman Roger Barczak.
