NEWTON — Police arrested more than a dozen people over the weekend after they stumbled upon an underage drinking party during a routine patrol.
Police Chief Larry Streeter said 13 people were taken into protective custody about 3 a.m. Saturday.
Officers were tipped off to the party when they discovered a vehicle parked the wrong way in front of 13 S. Main St.
That is the home of Amanda Tremlett, 18, whose parents were not home at the time of the party. Tremlett was charged with facilitating an underage alcohol house party.
Kingston police officers helped bring all the partygoers to the police station. Two are over 21 and were taken into protective custody but not charged. A 17-year-old was also taken into protective custody.
In addition to Tremlett, nine people were brought to the police station and charged with alcohol possession. They were Jennifer Sylvia, 18, of Exeter; Benjamin Schea, 20, of Kingston; Nicholas Colby, 20, of Newton; Joseph Gerstman, 18, of Kingston; Jessica Giconda, 18, of Newton; Benjamin Hayden, 20, of Newfields; Timothy Durham, 20, of Stratham; Leighann Noel, 19, of Newfields; and Stephan Henry, 19, of Richardson, Texas.
Police also impounded several cars at the party. Police said this was the largest underage drinking party they have broken up this summer, although several other teenagers were arrested during an underage drinking party the weekend of high school graduation.
