WINDHAM, N.H. — A 19-year-old man who crashed his jet ski Sunday night on Cobbetts Pond is in stable condition at a Boston hospital.

Jonathan LeMay of Goffstown crashed into a jet ski driven by Jeffrey LeMay, 23, also of Goffstown, just before 8 p.m.

The younger LeMay was flown by medical helicopter to Brigham and Women's hospital, according to Sgt. Joshua Dirth of the state Marine Patrol. Dirth could not confirm whether the two men are related.

The crash occurred just as boaters and residents were getting ready for the holiday weekend fireworks show.

Windham fire Lt. Jay Moltenbrey said the pond was busy with other boats, but typical for a fireworks show. The pond is split into two sections and Moltenbrey said the crash occurred in the larger half of the pond.

One Windham Fire Department jet ski and a boat were in the water at the time of the crash and were on the scene within two minutes, Moltenbrey said.

LeMay was loaded onto a private pontoon boat and then escorted to the town beach on Cobbetts Pond Road, according to Moltenbrey.

He was then taken to Griffin Park, where he was transported by helicopter. Jeffrey LeMay refused medical treatment.

No further information was available yesterday afternoon, Dirth said. He said the crash was still under investigation.
