The Monday night meeting was canceled because of the three-member board's busy work schedule. It hasn't been rescheduled yet, but the agenda that was posted online at the town's Web site will roll over to a date to be announced on the Web site.
Summer reading program ends with a picnic today DANVILLE — The annual picnic for Colby Library's summer reading program will be at noon today at the Danville Fire Association Hall. Steve Blunt and Joseph Carringer will present a musical program, "Kangaroos and Didgeridoos." Bring a picnic lunch. Children who completed the program will receive certificates and a book.
Museum passes available for end-of-summer trips PLAISTOW — Looking for something special to do with the family before school opens? The Plaistow Public Library just added passes to The Sports Museum in Boston to its collection. A total of 10 passes are available to cardholders for free or reduced admission to museums from Boston to Manchester. Basic gun course offered in Newton NEWTON — Country Pond Fish and Game Club will offer the NRA basic rifle course Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 14. Sign up soon for youth soccer KINGSTON — Sanborn Youth Recreational Soccer is gearing up for the fall season. There are still openings for boys and girls ages 4 through eighth grade. Games will be played Sunday afternoons, Sept. 7 through Oct. 26. The cost is $30 for children 4 through kindergarten, $35 for first- through eighth-graders. Drainage work begins on Old County Road PLAISTOW — The rest of the drainage work on Old County Road will begin after Labor Day. The costly construction was split into segments years ago for budgeting purposes, and just the portion by the new recreation fields was completed. The rest of the work, from the fields to Main Street, will be done in September by Al Hoyt & Sons for about $59,000.
Fill up on beans in Newton Saturday NEWTON — The First Baptist Church of Newton will hold a bean supper Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Toste Christian Education Center at 2 N. Main St. The menu includes navy and kidney beans, hot dogs, salad, bread, ice cream and beverages. Admission is $6 for adults, $2.50 for children under 12.
