NEWTON — The First Baptist Church of Newton will hold a bean supper Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Toste Christian Education Center at 2 N. Main St.
The menu includes navy and kidney beans, hot dogs, salad, bread, ice cream and beverages.
Admission is $6 for adults, $2.50 for children under 12.

Museum passes available for end-of-summer trips
PLAISTOW — Looking for something special to do with the family before school opens?
The Plaistow Public Library just added passes to The Sports Museum in Boston to its collection.
Ten passes are available to cardholders for free or reduced admission to museums from Boston to Manchester.

Basic gun course offered in Newton
NEWTON — Country Pond Fish and Game Club will offer the NRA Basic Rifle course Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 14.
The course is for beginning shooters and will teach the fundamentals of handling a gun, safety and more.

KINGSTON — Sanborn Youth Recreational Soccer is gearing up for the fall season. There are still openings for boys and girls ages 4 through eighth grade.
Games will be played Sunday afternoons, Sept. 7 through Oct. 26. The cost is $30 for children 4 through kindergarten, $35 for first- through eighth-graders.

Drainage work begins on Old County Road
PLAISTOW — The rest of the drainage work on Old County Road will begin after Labor Day.
The costly construction was split into segments years ago for budgeting purposes, and just the portion by the new recreation fields was completed. The rest of the work, from the fields to Main Street, will be done in September by Al Hoyt & Sons for about $59,000.
Sandown Conservation Commission holds photo contest
SANDOWN — The Conservation Commission is holding a photo contest in connection with the upcoming celebration of the town's acquisition of the Minton property.
There are three categories: junior (under 18), amateur and professional. All photos, no larger than 8 by 10 inches framed, must be taken on the Minton property. Entries should be left in the drop box at Sandown Library by closing the end of the day Sept. 24. The photos must have a name, contact information, and age if junior printed on the back.
The commission is sponsoring a guided hike and photography lesson Aug. 31 leaving the new parking lot on Fremont Road at 7 a.m.
Winners will be announced Sept. 27 during the celebration. Winning photos will be displayed at the library and used in the town report.
