Derry School District offers cyber-safety session
DERRY — Parents of Derry School District students in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to learn proactive safety measures for their own or their children's use of electronic media. The focus will be on Internet, social networking and cell phone use.
Cyber-Safety Night starts at 7 p.m. tomorrow at West Running Brook Middle School.
Students are urged to attend this event. Students in kindergarten through fourth grade will engage in supervised games and activities. Fifth- through eighth-graders also will enjoy supervised games and activities after Derry police Capt. Vernon Thomas and cell phone provider representatives address cyberbullying and cell phone use.
For parents, the Derry Police Department, represented by Thomas and Detective Ken Richards, will highlight current cyber-safety trends and threats.
Derry Middle School counselor Trisha DiGirolamo will talk about social networking, including Facebook, Club Penguin and more. Wireless company representatives will address electronic media privacy issues.
The school district's director of informational services, Dot Wiley, will review the school district's Internet safeguards and middle school technology specialist Meg Morse-Barry will discuss cyber search.
