Hampstead trees decorated with real holiday wishes

HAMPSTEAD — The Hampstead Lions Club is looking for some holiday help.

On Friday, the Lions will have a Christmas tree in the East Hampstead post office and in the Hampstead Center Market.

The trees will be decorated with 130 ornaments, each representing a senior citizen, young child or teenager who could use a holiday boost.

Choose an ornament and provide a gift for the person in need. Gifts must be returned to the two sites by 5 p.m. Dec. 12 in order to be wrapped and delivered.

Scholarships available for future educators

The New Hampshire Retired Educators Association is offering two $1,500 scholarships to college juniors or seniors who graduated from a New Hampshire high school and are pursuing a degree in education.

Application forms are available from high school guidance offices or by calling NHREA president Barbara Doyle at 926-0648 or Phyllis Simmons at 382-8405. The deadline is May 1.

Make a kissing ball for the holidays

PLAISTOW — Michelle Mercier will hold a workshop on how to make a kissing ball, a traditional New England decoration.

The workshop begins at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Plaistow Library. There is a $30 materials fee, payable by Dec. 1 at the library.

Holiday raffle means a diamond for someone

ATKINSON — The Atkinson Lions Club is raffling a diamond ring just in time for the holidays. The prize is a 1-carat woman's ring.

Tickets are $100 each and only 500 tickets will be sold. The drawing will be Dec. 12.

Food pantry needs help

KINGSTON — The Kingston Food Pantry needs help in cash donations, supermarket or department store gift cards, gas cards and food. Purchases of toys, gas and winter clothing are made possible by these donations.

Donations may be made payable to The Kingston Food Pantry and mailed to P.O. Box 230, Kingston, 03848.

Christmas tree coloring contest in Pelham

PELHAM — Winners of the town's annual Christmas tree coloring contest can win gift cards ranging from $10 to $30.

The contest, sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department, is for children ages 3 to 12. It is divided into five age categories, and the top winners in each one receive a gift card.

Coloring forms are available at the Parks and Recreation office at Town Hall. The deadline for returning them is Dec. 12.

Kingston VFW Post offers holiday dinner

KINGSTON — VFW Post 1088 and its auxiliaries will hold the annual Senior Citizens Holiday Dinner at noon on Sunday, Dec. 7. The meal will be served at the VFW post on Route 125.

HAMPSTEAD — The Hampstead Lions Club is escorting Santa to local homes or parties.

Santa will be available for visits Dec. 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21, day and evening. He also will be available evenings only Dec. 15-18, and Dec. 22 and 23.

There is a $30 fee for a 15-minute visit, $50 for a 30-minute visit. All proceeds go to local charities.
