Letter: Beautiful home is a blessing for sisterhood
To the editor:
Evie Collins, one of Danville's loveliest ladies, went home to her Lord on June 20, 2009.
For many years, she and her husband, Roy, had lived on Pine Street in the beautiful home he had built. A carpenter by trade, Roy used his talents to produce a home that reflected the natural beauty of the wood he so expertly crafted.
Meeting Evie and Roy for the first time when we went to view their home, which was for sale, was a joy. They were gracious, friendly, generous and helpful as they walked us through their home and property. The house was immaculate — a tribute to Evie's meticulous care. The grounds boasted numerous fruit trees, grape arbors, flowers and an extensive vegetable garden, all planted and maintained by Roy and Evie. In time, by the grace of God, we were able to purchase this beautiful property.
After Roy's death in February 1995, Evie came to visit sharing tea, memories and conversation. Often meeting while walking on Pine Street or at the Post Office, she kept us updated on family happenings.
We will miss her; but, her gentle presence will always be felt in the home and land that she and Roy lovingly built and nurtured. Thank you Evie and Roy for the blessing you have been in our lives.
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever." (Ps. 23)
