Isn't fair
There is a large number of teachers in the commonwealth who are making somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 an hour. They are public school teachers, many of whom have college degrees. Is this fair? I don't think so.
Fed up
As a Lawrence taxpayer I'm fed up with these city workers who are involved in illegal activies and are placed on paid leave. Either don't pay them or make them work while the investigation goes on. Too bad if it makes them uncomfortable.
Expecting lawsuit
Next thing we will hear is Mr. Laboy is suing the City of Lawrence for stress and guess what — Lawrence has lost every lawsuit, so what is another. I wish the state would just take over Lawrence. While you're investigating Mr. Laboy, you ought to investigate Mr. Sweeney.
Stop construction
When will the road construction in Andover stop? We are paying police officers and firemen overtime to man these sites and we're laying teachers off at the same time. In addition, the business owners are having a hard time in downtown Andover because customers can't find any place to park. The construction needs to stop.
Need realists
This is to the employees of the City of Methuen: The mayor has pitted one union member against another union member, one bargaining unit against the other. Your taxes will be out of the world next year. It's an election year and he and the council have to be realists.
Ladder truck
Last year the mayor of Haverhill didn't have any money in the budget to patch a roof at one of the firehouses, yet he finds $800,000 for a new ladder truck.
Older drivers
As an older driver I have no objection to being tested after a certain age. I do object to the attention older drivers get when they cause accidents considering all the young, drunk drivers who get killed.
Turn signals
I have an idea how automakers can save money: When you build a car, don't put signals in them because people don't use them. And all the police in these cities and town should give tickets to people who don't use them.
Caring doctor
I would like to say thank you to Dr. Alexander Brough working in the ER at Lawrence General Hospital. He was most caring and assisted me in no time. He moved right along and practically emptied a room in the waiting room. We need more caring doctors like him. Thank you.
Gambling
To the government of New Hampshire: I could not believe that you choose to lay off hundreds of men and women and force taxes on already hard-put people when all you had to do was say yes to expanded gambling.
Gumption
Congratulations Mayor Sullivan. You finally showed some gumption and asked for a suspension for Wilfredo Laboy. Now we need his expulsion to finish the job. Keep it up.
Pay cuts
How come every union in Methuen voted to take a pay cut except the teachers' union?
Cheap paint
I noticed that the yellow and white lines painted on the newly paved roads in North Andover are worn away within a few months. Are they using cheap latex paint?
Third party
In yesterday's paper a Republican said that his party needs to get its act together that it is straying too far from its ideals. As a Democrat I have to say he is right but also that is not enough. What we need (and will have someday) is a strong third party. The two-party system is not enough now days. A strong third party can only be achieved by a very popular person in the same caliber as JFK or Clinton when they were running.
