Fireworks money
Too bad the generous donor the last couple of years to the Haverhill July 4 fireworks didn't donate his/her money to the city to help with the city's financial woes. That would be money better spent. You know, it would actually help the city. Sure, fireworks are fun, but POOF!! and they are gone.
Older drivers
To the caller bashing the elderly drivers: How often do you see an elderly person tailgating the car in front of them? How often do you see an eldery person running red lights or failing to yield the right of way at yield signs? How often do you see elderly people running stop signs? How often do you see elderly people racing to make a left turn in front of oncoming traffic? How many elderly people can you follow for five miles and see them talking on their cell phone the whole time? How many elderly people drive around with their radios so loud you can hear them three blocks away? It's no contest — younger drivers win by a landslide. If you do your homework, I think you're probably going to find that teenagers in car accidents far outweigh the eldery hitting buildings. By the way, I've had my license since I was 16. I'm now 57 and have had only one accident in all those years. And I was 17 when I had that accident!
Too many condos
People are trying to sell homes. People are looking for homes at a reasonable price. But when you look in the paper all the homes for sale are two-bedroom condos. Don't these builders realize that there are families that have more than two children and there are families with two children that have one boy and one girl. They're asking phenomenal prices for two-bedroom condos. Two bedrooms doesn't cut it. I want a three-bedroom home. At one point you couldn't give away a condo, let alone sell it.
Waste of money
Haverhill is at it again. They have no money but they're paying somebody $24,000 to study the roads and let the city know which ones are in the worst condition. I'll tell you what. Pay me the $24,000. That will pay the tax increase and the water bill increase I have to come up with. I'll ride around the city and tell you which streets are worst. This is another ridiculous way for Haverhill to waste money.
Under scrutiny
Mayor Manzi is complaining about the Methuen budget, that we don't have enough money. I've been doing some detective work. I've lived in this city for 50 years and I love this city. But I find it difficult to believe what he is saying. City employees have walked away with wonderful benefit packages when they retired or when they quit. Many employees have gotten raises — not just raises but their positions have been upgraded to new positions. How can you justify upgrading positions when our budget is so stretched? How can you justify giving raises upon raises when there is no money to pay the bills? You're not going to escape scrutiny. There are people in this city who watch over you and we're finding, Mayor Manzi, that you talk out of both sides of your mouth.
